Unlike in Windows XP, where hibernation can be enabled or disabled in GUI, you have to do that by command prompt in Windows Vista.
- Make sure you are running in administrator mode.
- Type ‘cmd’ in the start menu search box. Press ‘Ctrl+Shift+Enter’.
- Windows Vista will prompt for your permission.
- Click ‘Continue’ to run Command Prompt in administrator mode.
- Type ‘powercfg -h on’ and press enter to enable Hibernation.

- Type ‘powercfg -h off’ and press enter to disable Hibernation.

- You must restart the system to enable/disable hibernation.
