I have listed down simple steps to enable or modify password for user accounts on Windows XP.

  • You have to be logged in as an administrator.
  • Goto ’Start–>Control Panel–>User Accounts’
  • Click on the account for which you have to set/modify password.
    prevent-access-2
  • Click on ‘Change my password’.prevent-access-1
  • Type your current password in the first field. If you do not have a password for this account, leave it blank.
    prevent-access-3
  • Enter password in ‘Type a new password’ field.
  • Re-enter your password in ‘Type the new password again to confirm’ field.
  • The fourth field is optional. Enter some hint for your password.
  • Hit on ‘Change Password’ button and your password is changed.
  • Close the User Accounts window.
